Weekend Movie Tip: The Deer Hunter

Michael Cimino's movie, released 1978 and famous about the scandal at the Berlin Filmfestspiele 1979, is more than a war movie. The movie is divided into three parts, before, at and after the war in Vietnam. 3 soldiers, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken and John Savage, go to Vietnam, the Vietcong captured and kept them in wooden cages. For the fun of their supervisors, they have to play Russian roulette. Back at home they realize how much their life has changed. Great film with powerful images. 5 Academy Awards, 4 Nominations and Golden Globe for director Michael Cimino plus 5 other Nominations

Traditional Swap Meet "Karl am Kanal"

Great weather today and every second sunday every month is traditional Karl am Kanal swap meet. Imagine a small, dirty because slippy parking place near the Ruhr canal in the heart of the Ruhrgebiet between Essen and Gelsenkirchen. Old men discussing about DKW, NSU or BSA (sometimes!). Lots of them siting together at the Bratwurst-Stand, eating some fat stuff and drinkin' coffee. Nice atmosphere since more than 30 years.
